SHARED READING:
CHANGING LIVES,
ONE STORY AT A TIME

“After a session, I always feel more connected, alert and alive”

THE CONNECTING POWER OF STORIES

At heart, shared reading is about people from all walks of life coming together to hear great words read aloud, and share their responses. Our facilitators encourage people – by relating to each other – to discover the deep pleasure and profound wisdom of great writing.

With this simple activity, it is possible to help people feel more connected and included. Our groups have a big impact on the emotional health and wellbeing of participants

SHARING THE POWER OF STORIES

People have always shared stories — it is part of what makes us human. Shared Reading NSW believes that with the simple act of sharing stories aloud it is possible to change people’s lives.

We are not a book club. Our trained facilitators encourage people to engage with the story they’re reading and with each other. Our difference lies in the fact that everyone is reading the same thing at the same moment in time — we are literally all on the same page.

SEE HOW WE CHANGE LIVES

HOW DO WE KNOW IT WORKS?

Quite simply, because we see it in action. In workplaces, in local communities, with jobseekers and in aged care – across New South Wales we see how shared reading is making a difference.

Participants and facilitators tell us about how shared reading has changed their lives or given them the tools to change the lives of others.

Along with what our trained facilitators learn every day, our practice is informed by a growing international body of research that details the impact of the shared reading model.
